THE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF DAVE HOWELL
NATIVE AMERICAN ARTIFACTS
On Saturday May 26, 2012, Houser Auctioneers will host a public
auction of the complete private collection of American Indian artifacts owned by
David Howell of Northampton, Pennsylvania. Ranked as one of the most
complete collections of Native American artifacts in existence, this
auction is a must for any collector. Auction pieces will include Arrow
Heads from local and national origin, Baskets, Paint Bowls, Weapons, Pipes,
Ivory, Bone, Jewelry, Wedding Bowls, and much, much more.
This once in a lifetime auction will be held at the NOVA Center
(North Whitehall Ambulance Corps), 2375 Levans Road, Coplay PA. Sale
begins promptly at 9 A.M.. There will be an auction preview held Friday 25 May from 5 P.M. to 7
P.M. All items being sold will be numbered and inventoried for easy
reference. Lee Hallman, the curator of the local American Indian Artifact
museum and founder of the Indian Artifact Collectors of Pennsylvania, has
provided input on the origin, use, and composition of most pieces being sold.
Many pieces have individual authentication papers and will be provided to the
winning bidders, but all buyers are buying all pieces in "As is" condition with
no guarantees what so ever. If you have any questions regarding any piece,
please contact Jason Houser at 484-550-8593 or this web site for more
information.
Houser Auctioneers is proud to maintain a "NO BUYER'S PREMIUM"
service to all of our in-house customers paying with cash or check. For
those in-house customers paying with visa/master card, a 3% service fee will be
applied. If you are a distant collector who is unable to attend in person,
this auction will be offered via Auctionzip "Live Auctions". Houser
Auctioneers is estimating 200 Internet lots with 50 In-House only lots.

please don't hesitate to call. The "IN-HOUSE" sales list follows.
FEATURE ITEM LOT 100: Large worked flint ceremonial arrow
head from Ohio. Found in the 1800's. A microscopic examination was conducted on
the surface of the flint which showed the stone has a reasonable patina with a
number of red-brown deposits which appear to be iron oxides on the surface.
Under the red-brown patina, the flint is a coarsely crystalline silica, rather
like a chert. The color of the stone itself is a pale cream. There is therefore
an extensive patina on the surface of the arrowhead which may mean that it is
indeed ancient, although how ancient would be very difficult to determine.
Looking at the surface, one can state that it does not look modern; it should be
of some antiquity, and may be a lot older than 19th century AD. Opinion provided
by David A. Scott, BA, BSc, PhD, C.Chem, FRSC, FIIC.
